The best tourist attraction in Europe is in Spain

Europe is known for a culture and history that every year attract millions of tourists from all over the world interested in getting to know cities that are very different from each other. The proposals of each city are endless, however there are some corners that arouse interest among travelers; places that have become especially popular.

Knowing the opinion of those who have already visited them is probably one more guarantee of success when designing our own itineraries. In this sense, the travel agency Iglu Cuise has revealed, in a study, which are the best and worst rated tourist attractions on the Old Continent, and Spain has attractions in both categories.

To elaborate the top 50 of the most visited attractions in Europe, the authors of the work used the list of "favorite monuments" of travelers from Tripadvisor. And Spain not only has a great presence on this list, but also leads it with the Mosque of Córdoba, which is the favourite, with 86.3% of the maximum five-star score. Built in 785, the building has 1,200 years of history and is crowned as the third largest mosque in the world. Today it serves as a tribute to two religions and cultures that define the history of Andalusia.

It is closely followed by St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City with one point less and 10 million visitors a year. Spain also obtains the fourth, fifth, seventh and eighth place in this particular ranking with the Alhambra in Granada, the Plaza de España and the Alcázar in Seville, which makes it the country with the most attractions in the top 15. In addition, the Sagrada Família, in seventh place, is the most visited and most reviewed destination with almost 130,000 five stars. Piazzale Michelangelo, the Grand Canal in Venice or the Acropolis Museum in Athens also appear on this list.

At the other extreme, the list of the worst valued attractions by travelers is headed by London, with the London Eye. The attraction was built to celebrate the new millennium, in the year 2000, and the idea of the Eye was chosen after organizing a competition, where participants were asked what the turn of the century represented for them. Although it has the lowest score on the list, it attracts more than three million visitors each year.

The Gothic Quarter in Barcelona, with 66.3% five stars, is in second position starting from the bottom. Other tourist attractions with lower scores are Edinburgh Castle, the Arc de Triomphe in the capital of France, or the Trevi Fountain in Rome. Even so, all these destinations remain on the list of traveler favorites.

Europe has a wide variety of tourist offers, from castles, cathedrals, museums to monuments and entire neighborhoods. Most of the attractions meet the expectations of tourists, and Iglu Cruise's Director of Global Supplies says that "it is still worth visiting the local attractions to better understand the country, culture and history of the destination."
