The Tesla Model Y has been crowned the best-selling model in the first half of 2023 in Europe. According to the data offered by the consultancy Jato Dynamics, a total of 136,564 electric units of the Elon Musk firm have been sold, that is, 204% more than in the same period of the previous year. In this way, the American car surpasses the low cost Dacia Sandero, which remains in second position with 123,408 units and a growth of 27%.

Between January 1 and June 30, a total of 6.56 million units were registered in European territory, which represents an increase of 17% compared to the 5.59 million registered in the same period of 2022. Despite this increase, the consultancy has recalled that these data are far from those registered in 2019 and 2018, before the pandemic, with 1.86 million and 2.13 million fewer units respectively.

Jato global analyst Felipe Muñoz has highlighted that although registrations are increasing "slowly" again, difficulties, such as those of the supply chain and other post-pandemic factors, show that the market "will not be the same again " than before 2020, at least "for a while".

In addition, it considers it essential to facilitate access to electric cars, the price of which is still higher than internal combustion equivalents. Beyond the economic aspect, consumers also see autonomy and recharging limitations in this type of car. In any case, it should be noted that their batteries increasingly offer a greater range of kilometers to travel and the infrastructure of public plugs is increasing. In fact, the EU has approved a regulation that obliges countries to have electrical connection points every 60 kilometers on the main routes before 2026.

Despite these brakes, the expansion of zero-emission mobility continues to advance. This is demonstrated by the data: the total registrations of 100% electric vehicles (BEV) from January to June reached 934,243 units, 45% more than in 2022 and a share of the total number of registrations of 14.2%.

In the specific ranking of best-selling electric models in Europe during the first half of the current year, the Model Y was the absolute leader, surpassing its pursuer, the Model 3, by more than three times, which reached 42,588 units (6%). , and the Volkswagen ID.4, which added 41,672 registrations, which achieved 82% more than in the first half of 2022.

In the general classification, which includes internal combustion models, as we have already said, the Model Y occupies the first place, followed by the Dacia Sandero, one of the most popular cars; without going any further, in Spain it leads the registrations of the first half of 2023. The Volkswagen T-Roc completes the podium, with 111,692 units, which represents a growth of 29% compared to the same period of 2022.

Regarding the cars that have registered the most growth in the first half of the year, after the Elon Musk model, the Skoda Octavia has been located with an increase of 77% to reach 82,297 units; the Volkswagen Tiguan, with 54% and 74,288 units; and the Toyota Yaris, with an increase of 48% to reach 96,214 copies sold.

For their part, plug-in hybrids (PHEV) totaled 486,551 units registered in the first half of the year in Europe, with the Ford Kuga as the best-selling vehicle with 26,428 units and growth of 11%. The Volvo XC60 (20,923 units; 50%) and the Lynk
