The Spanish women's soccer team was proclaimed world champion after beating England in Sydney. A single goal from Olga Carmona in the first half gave the red-red footballers victory, who put together a great game, with many arrivals at the goal of Mary Earps, against a British team handcuffed for much of the match.
Spain was able to seal the match before the final whistle when Keira Walsh committed a handball penalty after being passed by Mariona Caldentey, but Jenni Hermoso missed from eleven meters. The team knew how to withstand the push of an English team that added troops in attack, all insufficient to overcome the goalkeeper Cata Coll.
The final whistle, after 13 minutes added, gave way to a multitude of scenes of joy among the Spanish players, some with tears of emotion, while among the English, Euro Cup champions, sadness settled. The coach Jorge Vilda gave a speech to his footballers to kick off the Spanish party.
