The Balearic Islands, preferred destination for cycling tourism in 2022

Strava is a global sports community with more than 100 million registered athletes from 195 countries. The 'Year in Sport' report analyzes more than 1,800 million activities each year to highlight world sports trends and the first results for 2022 are already appearing.

Sports tourism is one of the engines of economic recovery in Spain, and the Strava study supports it by counting that 2.4 million athletes who arrived in our country in 2022 to practice sports, most of them to the Balearic Islands and Las Palmas . The islands win the game over the peninsula in this regard.

The Balearic Islands is at the top of the cycling ranking, 36% of the registered activities are from foreigners who traveled there. The region thus exceeds well-known areas such as: Vlaandaren (Belgium), Trentino Alto-Adige (Italy) and, again, Las Palmas.

The majority (45.68%) came from the United Kingdom, ahead of France (18.96), Germany (14.83) and the Netherlands (113.77). The most chosen regions to practice sports are in Spain, both in the case of cycling and athletics or hiking. A good year for sports tourism.
