The Aran trustee requests that Aranese can also be used in the Congress of Deputies

The trustee of Aran, Maria Vergés, wants Aranese to also be used in the Congress of Deputies and has requested this by letter to the president of the lower house, Francina Armengol.

Vergés has sent the letter after Francina Armengol announced that, from the next plenary session, the co-official languages of the State, Catalan, Galician and Basque, may be used.

Vergés has said that he welcomes this announcement and that he has a "moral and institutional" duty to make this request.

In the letter, he also made reference to the Statute of Autonomy of Catalonia and the Law of the Special Regime of Aran, which recognize the specificity of the Val d'Aran and the recognition of Aranese as the official language in Catalonia.

The trustee considers that "recognition of linguistic diversity" is "a big step" in "respect and consideration for its speakers."

Thus, he added: "allowing Aranese to be spoken in the chamber would take a significant step towards the protection, projection and recognition of our cultural diversity and the guarantee that all voices are heard".
