The popular jury has found Omar Dembelly guilty of murder, the man accused of killing a young man with knives in a house in Masarac (Alt Empordà) on August 31, 2022.
The verdict, by eight votes to one, states that the defendant attacked the victim with a kitchen knife by surprise and without her being able to defend herself. In addition, they emphasize that the attack occurred in a small room that the two men shared and that the victim had no option to flee.
The jury also considers it proven, by seven votes to two, that the accused asked his housemates to notify the police and turned himself in.
However, the prosecutor maintains that the legal requirements to be an extenuating confession are not met and maintains the request for 24 years in prison.
