Tastings of tap water to raise awareness of its consumption among schoolchildren

More than 6,000 students have participated in one of Global Omnium's educational lines through GOEduca to raise awareness about the proper use of water. Different educational activities in all cycles from kindergarten to high school or professional and university training to respond to the concerns that arise in the courses themselves.

The most demanded are the visits to the facilities managed by Global Omnium -purification plants, water treatment or research laboratories-, the educational days in the schools themselves and those to promote the consumption of tap water with tastings at street foot All of them aim to demonstrate the value of the urban water cycle and its relationship with the Sustainable Development Goals within the framework of the Circular Economy of Water.

The visits to plants that Global Omnium manages are intended to explain the process carried out there and its implication and importance in people's lives. The facilities that can be visited are the water treatment plants, the treatment plants and the Calles composting plant. In the Educational Classroom of the El Realón de Picassent water treatment plant, where more than 50% of the visits are received, students have direct contact with the integral water cycle.

The educational sessions have the general objective of explaining the urban water cycle and its relationship with the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. All this through materials, experiments and dynamics adapted to the educational level to which they are directed. In this way, the water service within sustainability and the Circular Economy can be valued and understood.

There are also training courses carried out jointly with CEFIRE (GVA), which complements the permanent training service for teachers of the Department of Education of the Generalitat Valenciana, with an attendance of 115 teachers.

As for the sessions to promote tap water, they seek to promote and value tap water by carrying out a blind tasting so that the user, in a simple and objective way, has a sensory experience where he compares tap water tap with mineral water in order to make them aware of the benefits of consuming tap water.

During 2022 at Global Omnium they have carried out more than 2,000 tastings in various municipalities of the Valencian Community. The results show that only 40% of the surveyed tasters declare themselves to be drinking tap water, but subsequently 60% do not observe differences between tap and bottled water.
