Suri Cruise turns 18, keeping her distance from her father, Tom Cruise

Suri Cruise was born on April 18, 2006 as the only biological daughter of Tom Cruise. After six months in which her parents, Tom and Katie Holmes, tried to keep her anonymous, she appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine along with both actors. The young woman is now turning 18, away from the media spotlight and focused on her passion for fashion.

After Suri's birth, her mother, actress Katie Holmes, decided to keep her daughter away from the paparazzi who at that time were pursuing the couple of actors in search of capturing the little girl's face. Katie currently maintains a very good relationship with her daughter, since they both understand each other perfectly: “I'm happy to have had her when I was in my twenties, I feel like we grew up together.”

For his part, Tom Cruise has always maintained a greater distance from Suri despite having spoken highly of her. As reported by several American media, the last photo in which father and daughter appear takes place at Disney World in the summer of 2012.

After the couple's divorce that same year, the actor decided to focus on his professional career, leaving aside his relationship with Suri. Furthermore, Tom's membership in Scientology, a religion based on concepts such as spirituality and eternity, further distanced the actor from the little girl and their relationship was completely lost.

Precisely after Katie and Tom's separation, the actress decided to move to Manhattan to get Suri away from the pressure of the media and so that she could grow up more freely. Holmes confessed in several interviews that at that time she took Suri to the park at six in the morning to avoid the press cameras.

During these 18 years, the actor has contributed to his daughter's financial needs by paying $400,000 to Holmes annually after the divorce. Cruise has helped her daughter with expenses related to her studies, her education and other extra costs, although with the arrival of her majority the situation could change.

After the divorce with her daughter's mother, several documents revealed that the ruling specified that the separation had been carried out to “protect Suri from Scientology,” a religion with which Katie did not agree.

Tom, as a follower of said religion, asked his ex-wife to sign a series of confidentiality agreements after ending their marriage, however, Suri did not do so. Having turned 18, the young woman has the right to be able to talk about this mysterious organization if she so considers it.

Currently, Suri is looking for a university where she can pursue studies focused on design and fashion, her great passions since she was a child.

After having studied at the most prestigious schools in the United States, the time has finally come to find a good university where the young woman can fulfill her desire to become a successful designer.

At the moment, Suri is in a selection process even though she has already sent some applications to various centers. Katie, for her part, wants her daughter to get a place at a university in New York so she can stay close to her.
