Support for the Catalan candidacy for the Ryder

Common cause to get the 2031 edition of the Ryder Cup to be held in Catalonia, specifically in the PGA of Caldes de Malavella (Girona). As La Vanguardia said, the Costa Brava-Barcelona candidacy is one step away from being chosen to host the most impressive competition in the world of golf.

In the text, the federations, sports entities and business organizations emphasized the impact that the celebration of the Ryder Cup could have on the PGA Catalunya. "The direct impact of the event and its return could reach 1,300 million euros," the statement underlines. This amount is based on the income generated in previous editions. Up to seven out of ten spectators who attend a Ryder consider returning to the place to spend a few days playing golf. It would be about generating for Caldes and the whole area a call effect for quality tourism that usually accompanies the practice of this sport. The promoters of the candidacy, who also emphasize that the Ryder wants to organize "the most sustainable edition in history", consider that this is a remarkable opportunity to consolidate Catalonia as a nerve center for major world events.

Contacts are taking place discreetly at the highest level and in a couple of weeks it is expected that the president of the Ryder Cup, Guy Kinnings, will meet with the president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès. According to sources close to the candidacy, the Ryder organizers welcome the Catalan project.

This initiative has the support of the central government (which should materialize in the future in a guarantee of 96 million) and the Diputació de Girona, which would contribute 4 million. Work is currently underway to obtain the support of the Generalitat, the Barcelona City Council and the Barcelona Provincial Council, which together should allocate some 45 million. Meanwhile, one of the promoters of the candidacy, the Irish businessman Denis O'Brien, owner of the PGA Catalunya, would invest 25 million in the construction of a new course that meets the requirements of the Ryder.

The Caldes facilities already aspired to host this competition by 2022 but in the end the chosen one was Rome in an edition that was later delayed until 2023. Currently, in addition to Catalonia in international golf circles it is specified that three courses in England would have been interested in organizing the Ryder in 2031.
