Spectacular sunrise of altostratus mamma

I share in La Vanguardia Readers' Photos a very special image from this morning in Barcelona: A fantastic sunrise with altostratus mamma illuminated for a few brief moments by the light of the Sun.

The special light has only lasted a couple of minutes and the result is what we can see in this panoramic photograph of the birth of a new day in the Catalan capital.

The snapshot has been captured from the Fabra Observatory, a privileged observation point in the city of Barcelona. It is located on a buttress of the Tibidabo mountain, facing south, 415 meters above sea level.

From this astronomical observatory you can not only study asteroids, comets and the stars that cross the sky, but you can also see all the meteorological phenomena that occur in Barcelona.

In this case, we can contemplate not only an extraordinary panorama of Barcelona, but also of other localities in Barcelona, such as Sant Adrià de Besòs, Santa Coloma de Gramenet and Badalona.

The Latin term "altostratus" can be translated as "the highest strata." They are caused by large masses of air, which rise and then condense, usually by an incoming front, which usually generates more or less precipitation.
