This Friday, Mayor Jaume Collboni and Deputy Mayor for Security Albert Batlle expressed their support for providing electric guns to certain units of the Urban Police. In fact, municipal police officers could have these weapons available this summer.
Mayor Collboni, in his response to a request made in the municipal plenary session by the Junts group, said that he positively values the request of the mayor of the Urban Guard Pedro Velázquez. Apparently commanders of this body have already raised with the municipal government the convenience of having these devices, an opinion that in recent weeks was reinforced as a few urban guards found themselves in very compromising situations, in trouble where it would have been very useful for them. The Deputy Mayor for Security himself explained that the idea is for police officers to have another alternative to firearms. “Our objective is that agents can use firearms as little as possible,” Batlle added. “This way we improve everyone's safety.” The deputy mayor also said that they will now study which municipal agents will have these pistols.
