Sánchez plays a game with the Iranian chess player who competed without a veil

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, received the Iranian chess player Sara Khadem, who competed without a veil in the last World Cup of this sport held in Kazakhstan, this Wednesday at the Palacio de la Moncloa, and played a game with her.

Khadem, 25, participated without a headscarf in that world championship in December to protest the death in Iran in police custody of the young Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini, who had been arrested for wearing the headscarf incorrectly.

As a result of this protest, the chess player, who has the category of Grand Master, has established her residence in Spain to avoid reprisals from the Iranian regime.

Sánchez wanted to personally express his support at the meeting they held in Moncloa.

"How much I have learned today from a woman who inspires me, the Women's Chess Grandmaster Sara Khadem. All my support for women athletes. Your example contributes to a better world," the President of the Government wrote on Twitter.

In addition to talking about the situation of the Iranian athlete, Sánchez and Khadem, as can be seen in the images of the meeting, have played a game between comments on various movements of the pieces on the board.
