Sánchez Llibre plans to negotiate with Garamendi today his position in the CEOE

Josep Sánchez Llibre plans to meet today with the president of the CEOE, Antonio Garamendi, to discuss the fit of Foment del Treball in the new executive committee of the Spanish organization. And, specifically, on the continuity of the president of Foment as vice president of the Spanish organization.

Until now Sánchez Llibre has held the position of vice president of the CEOE, in his capacity as president of the most relevant organization of all those that are part of the Spanish employers' association. He was also appointed responsible for CEOE's relations with political parties and the Congress of Deputies. This function, however, has been laminated from the very leadership of the CEOE after the appointment of the former PP minister Fátima Báñez as president of the CEOE Foundation, who in practice is maintaining political contacts, according to business sources.

Although relations were already deteriorating, the tension between the two employers soared as a result of the presentation of Virginia Guinda's candidacy for the CEOE presidency. In the elections, held last November, Antonio Garamendi won Virginia Guinda with a very large majority.

The president of Foment explained this Monday that he hopes that today's meeting will serve to find "a good solution for everyone" and he was relatively optimistic because, according to what he said, "I always like to see the glass half full." On the part of the CEOE they indicated that "they do not comment on the private agenda (of Garamendi)". The meeting is prior to the meeting of the board of directors on Thursday, in which the executive committee, including the vice presidents, must be elected.
