Sleeping together... in the metaverse

More and more people are sleeping alone, and for those who do so in spite of themselves, the metaverse is offering a surprising solution: sharing a bedroom in rooms located in virtual reality.

Apparently, it all started as an instrument for relaxation and improving the quality of sleep. The first offers emerged and some users who suffer from insomnia verified that, if they went to bed immersed in a calm atmosphere, with dim light and soft ambient sounds, they had a much better chance of resting. In August 2020, a study from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine confirmed that it was an effective option.

Virtual spaces soon proliferated with this purpose: to offer a quiet and pleasant place to sleep, through images, sounds or silences that help reduce tension, fear or anxiety. Minimalist rooms, cabins, apartments on top of skyscrapers or spaces in the middle of nature, on top of a mountain, next to a river, in the jungle, next to a campfire or under a blanket of stars. It's been a year since Forbes magazine reported that billionaire hoteliers were investing in building hotels on platforms like Decentraland and Sandbox, anticipating that demand would increase.

But later it has been seen that a good quality of sleep is not the only reason why some people sleep with their virtual reality glasses. Some people, after spending hours socializing in the metaverse (chatting, playing, dancing, or just exploring), are reluctant to let go of this reality and return to the solitude they find at home. Others, after spending an ordinary day, enter it before going to bed, to find someone with whom to chat for a while and lie down together in complete solitude.

They are people who in real life can't find someone to sleep with or hug. And when they discover each other, they sleep together and snuggle up. Sometimes speaking in whispers. As a couple or surrounded by more people. And with the inconvenience of wearing glasses that today are still not very compatible with total rest.
