Sheinbaum is ahead in the first week of the campaign for the candidacy of Morena

Claudia Sheinbaum is ahead in the first week of the campaign to win the candidacy of the National Regeneration Movement (Morena) party for the presidency of the republic. At the same time, the confidence of the citizens that the appointment of the Morena candidate or candidate, is carried out through a democratic process, has grown.

La Vanguardia has had access to the poll that the polling firm Covarrubias y Asociados has carried out among citizens to find out if credibility has grown in a clean process for the appointment of the Morena candidate for the 2024 elections.

The study carried out between June 20 and 26 reveals, first of all, that the popularity of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) is very high, since 76% of those surveyed approve of the work that the president is doing. .

If this 76% approval rate is broken down, it stands out that 50% affirm that they "approve a lot" of AMLO's work and the remaining 26% say that they "approve somewhat" of his work in office. Far away is 21% of those surveyed, who show their disapproval of the president's management.

The popularity of the president is precisely one of the reasons why the Morena party is emerging as unbeatable in the upcoming elections.

Covarrubias y Asociados, one of the most traditional and credible polling companies in Mexico, also asked its respondents about their party preferences for the 2024 elections. Morena was the winner, with a percentage of 48% of voting intentions. . Its closest competitor, the National Action Party (PAN), only obtained a 13% vote intention and the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) reached 10%. Far below are the rest of the political parties.

That is to say, the real content takes place within Morena, in determining which will be the candidate who can become president. This has been the research scope of the work of Covarrubias y Asociados.

So far the five candidates for Morena who are campaigning are on tour throughout the country, but the intention to vote has not changed significantly in recent months. Covarrubias y Asociados asked about the candidates Claudia Sheinbaum, Marcelo Ebrard, Adán Augusto López, Gerardo Fernández Noroña, Ricardo Monreal and Manuel Velasco.

Asked about the degree of knowledge of the candidates, Marcelo Ebrard reached 64%. Claudia Sheinbaum got 61%. Far behind were Ricardo Monreal, with 37%; Fernández Noroña, with 35%, Adán Augusto, with 28% and Manuel Velasco, with 27%. Asked what image they have of the candidates, Claudia Sheinbaum detaches herself from Ebrard by obtaining 40% of the sympathies, against 37 for her opponent. For his part, Fernández Noroña obtained 20% and the rest were below 16%.

The study that has compared the evolution of the intention to vote in recent months, indicates that there is not a great difference. Claudia Sheinbaum wins her opponents in almost every category and only in the knowledge section is she surpassed by Ebrard.

Covarrubias y Asociados asked about the attributes of the applicants. Specifically for values such as honesty, respect for women, closeness to people, knowledge of the country and keeping his word. In these sections, Claudia Sheinbaum again emerged victorious with the exception of the subject of knowledge of the country, where Ebrard surpasses her by 30% against 20%.

Asked by those surveyed if they consider the applicant a good candidate, again Sheinbaum remains ahead with 44% against 38% for Ebrard, his closest competitor. Finally, when the sample was asked about the voting intention of the Morena candidate for the presidency of the republic, Sheinbaum maintained 34% of the voting intentions; Marcelo Ebrard 20%; Fernández Noroña, 9%; Adán Augusto, 7% and Ricardo Monreal and Manuel Velasco 5%.
