See how the Pandora in Barcelona was made

In the fictional Universe of the movie Avatar, one of its greatest geological and natural attractions are the Hallelujah Mountains, a fascinating place since they literally float due to a series of anomalies in gravity.

Barcelona already has its first vertical forest with suspended trees, the closest thing in the city to Pandora from Avatar, as can be seen in this photographic report in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia, where we can see how it was created step by step .

The Fundación la Caixa, with the collaboration of Fira de Barcelona and the City Council, has celebrated the 20th anniversary of the cultural center by offering a unique project in the city that combines art and the environment.

The vertical forest revolves around the concept of roots in reference to the search for water. In coherence, the project optimizes water resources with the recirculation of irrigation water and the collection and use of rainwater.

It is a vertical forest with a 535 m2 vegetated façade surface and 220 m2 of enclosures (12 m high and 50 m wide), made up of 22,000 plants and 15 large hanging trees.

In this way, the old wall of the Metallurgy Palace of the Fira de Barcelona Montjuïc venue has become a large green entrance door that connects the mountain, uniting nature and the city, and integrating into the environment. This has been possible in the square that was opened to the public after the demolition of the old La Pérgola restaurant in 2014.

Next, we can see the entire process of building the vertical forest in 5 steps:
