Santa Coloma asks the Generalitat for help to remove the dead trees from the Serralada

The mayor of Santa Coloma de Gramanet (North Barcelona), Núria Parlon, has sent a letter to Anna Sanitjas, director general of Forests and Environmental Management, which depends on the Department of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda in which she requests the collaboration to address urgently the removal of dead trees from the Serralada de Marina that seriously affects the municipality.

In the letter, Parlon points out that "we are currently facing a critical situation in relation to the health of forest areas, mainly caused by the prolonged drought, which is causing sudden mortality of trees." The council informs the Department that a significant increase in dead trees affected by the common pine shoot beetle (Tomicus piniperda) has been detected. This plague was already suffered two years ago, during which, with the collaboration of the Generalitat, actions were carried out to remove the affected pine trees.

In the letter, the mayor explains that "this situation is causing considerable damage to our forest and peri-urban area, endangering local biodiversity and causing the accumulation of fuel with the consequent risk of fire."

To address this problem, the Santa Coloma de Gramenet City Council requests the financial collaboration of the General Directorate of Forests to address the removal of trees affected by drought and the implementation of control measures for the common shoot beetle. Of the pine. These actions are crucial to preserving the health of our forests and preventing the spread of wildfires, while ensuring the safety and well-being of our citizens.
