Sandberg, the manager who took Facebook to the top, no longer wants to be an executive

As much as it is said that money is not everything, it cannot be denied that it is a help.

Sheryl Sandberg, 54-year-old billionaire, one of the most successful executives in Silicon Valley, experienced at Google and main architect of Facebook-Meta, one of those who have most challenged male power, decided this week to complete her professional career and dedicate herself to other needs.

“Meta's business is strong and well positioned for the future, so I feel like this is the time to walk away from all of this,” he wrote on his Facebook account on Wednesday.

In this way he announced that he is leaving the board of directors of Meta (parent platform of the social network and other companies such as WhatsApp or Instagram).

He does not want to continue as one of the nine board members and opts to leave the company. Although she says she will continue to be an advisor when necessary and always willing to help, Sandberg believes it is time to become more involved in her nonprofit company, LeanIn.org, which focuses on empowering women on the ground. of work, and related projects. A few weeks ago she was one of the organizers of the event held at the United Nations building in New York to denounce the use by Hamas of raping women and girls as a weapon.

The name of that organization comes from Lean in (Let's go ahead in its Spanish edition), a book published in 2013 about his personal experience in the technology industry. “I want my new chapter to make a difference,” she said when talking about this new stage.

Sandberg ceased to be the chief operating officer of Meta, the number two after founder Mark Zuckenberg, in 2022. She was replaced by the Spaniard Javier Oliván.

She came to the company in 2008 as top executive while still at Facebook, after seven years at Google. In 2012 she joined the council.

During his period at the helm, Facebook went from being a startup to becoming a global company (Meta) and one of the most valued in the world, surpassing a market capitalization of one trillion dollars at its peak.

But his management was also marked by numerous controversies that stained the company's reputation and frightened both legislators and investors. In particular, he was in the middle of the controversy over the spread of disinformation in the 2016 United States elections and during the first months of the pandemic. In addition, an investigation was opened for violating antitrust laws and Sandberg was accused of not doing enough to prevent the spread of hate content.

Zuckerberg, as in the obituaries, was full of praise for her and her work.
