Last Thursday, the Popular Party presented its campaign video for the next general elections, which will take place on July 23. The group led by Alberto Núñez Feijóo took advantage of the coincidence of the appointment with the summer holidays to set their scenery on a beach, something for which they received a multitude of comments on social networks.
Verano Azul is the motto chosen by the PP for the campaign, making several nods to the mythical series originally broadcast by Televisión Española in the 80s, and the procedures for its registration as a trademark have already begun. The latter has not sat well with the public entity, which has formally requested that this request be stopped immediately.
In a statement released by the corporation, RTVE asks the PP "to withdraw its application for registration of the Verano Azul brand and to cease its use." It also warns that, "in case of not meeting this requirement, it reserves the right to exercise the actions established in the current legislation", according to its publication.
The public entity informs the political party that it owns the same brand, which the PP would have tried to register under the name Verano Azul PP. "This request would violate the provisions of Article 6 of the Trademark Law 17/2001," reports RTVE.
According to the radio and television corporation, "the request submitted by the PP could violate the provisions of the trademark legislation" and is "owner of the trademark and its exclusive right of use for class 38, related to television programs ".
The Popular Party has already responded to RTVE's request and considers that "the campaign is protected by class 35", so "it can be carried out and disseminated without any problem". The political group adds that "RTVE's action is before the Trademark Registry and not before the Electoral Board", as it has been announced.
