Roda de Berà City Council applies the first water restrictions due to drought

The Roda de Berà City Council (Tarragona) has implemented the first water restrictions in the municipality in view of the current situation of drought. Among them, the prohibition to fill private swimming pools, as well as the cleaning of vehicles, streets and street furniture.

The consistory has also closed the fountains and irrigation in municipal green areas and has limited the use of irrigation in private gardens. In addition, an awareness campaign has been launched with the aim that the public "wake up and act accordingly", as argued by the mayor of Roda de Berà, Pere Virgili, that considering that "many people still think that it is an exaggeration and that the situation is not so serious”.

As specified by the council in a statement, the neighborhoods that are supplied by the municipal wells are in a state of alert. In the coastal area, where citizens drink water from the Ebro through the Tarragona Water Consortium, the current situation is one of early warning.

Within this drought alert, following the Pla de Sequera approved by the Generalitat to manage episodes of water scarcity, the City Council has put in place the first water restrictions to act on time, before the situation worsens, according to what they say .
