The Defense Minister, Margarita Robles, has informed the Prosecutor's Office of the modification of a Wikipedia entry referring to the police charges produced on 1-O in the town of Alcarrás (Lleida), which was carried out from a computer belonging to the Ministry of Defense just after the film Alcarrás, by Carla Simón, was chosen to represent Spanish cinema at the Oscars.
Defense sources advanced last week the opening of an investigation to clarify from which computer the Wikipedia entry referring to the Catalan municipality had been modified to eliminate the reference to police charges during the day of October 1, 2017, date of the celebration of the outlawed self-determination referendum.
This Tuesday in the control session of the Government in the Senate, Robles has claimed that this fact cannot be attributed to the Ministry of Defense as a whole. "There is an individualized action of a person and it is already known to the Public Prosecutor", explained the minister.
In any case, he has rejected the criticism of the ERC senator Mirella Cortès, who has condemned the attempt to hide "everything that is not convenient". "They fear democracy and that is why they deny the legitimate right of self-determination of the people of Catalonia", she has denounced. The parliamentarian has thus reproached Robles for using the institutions to launch "disinformation campaigns" and "delegitimize a democratic option such as independence." For the senator, the events are once again an example of the "repression" and "persecution" of the independentistas.
"Don't blame Defense for what it hasn't done at any time. You have to be rigorous. Defense doesn't go on Wikipedia nor is it interested in altering any reality about events that don't even correspond to this Government," Robles responded in a tense tone to the senator of the Republican group.
"This is a control to the Government to ask questions, not to launch accusations and considerations," Robles denounced before reiterating that "at no time" has the Ministry of Defense entered Wikipedia. And he has added: "Defense has not done anything that it says, there is an investigation into the actions of an individualized person."
These Civil Guard charges were referenced in the Wikipedia entry to the film Alcarràs, directed by Carla Simón, and which were eliminated after his nomination to represent Spain at the 2023 Oscar Awards, in the category of Best International Film, was made public. .
