Residents of La Ribera ask mayor Collboni for protection against the harassment of "false occupations"

Neighbors of a block of flats in the neighborhood of Sant Pere, Santa Caterina i la Ribera who a few days ago reported on these same pages that months ago a few people took up residence in one of the houses with the aim of making their lives miserable for They are asking Mayor Jaume Collboni for help and protection. They have just written him a letter in which they tell him all the sorrows they are suffering.

“The situation has worsened in recent days,” say some of the tenants at number 16 Giralt el Pellisser Street, in this block located next to the Santa Caterina market. There are more and more strangers who go up and down the stairs at all hours, who constantly try to provoke us, probably so that we confront them, so that the situation becomes violent... So we wrote to the mayor to give us a hand, to help us.”

These neighbors add that it was the new owners of the property who actually sent these supposed squatters. “Apparently they want or wanted to set up tourist apartments. One of the squatters themselves told us. The thing is that at this time it is not clear who speaks on behalf of the property. "This is a very stressful situation that we have been dealing with for months, which is making our lives bitter."

“Those who bought the farm say they no longer have anything to do with it. A supposed mediator called us who claimed to speak on behalf of some investors who had already signed a deposit and everything, but now our lawyer can't talk to her... And meanwhile the squatters are getting out of control. The other day one of them tried to enter one of the uninhabited homes through the light patio. "We don't know if they are now getting along badly with the owners, if what they want is to settle in more apartments."

As these neighbors recently explained to La Vanguardia, the property was sold in April, and then the new owners told them that the best thing they could do was leave, that they would soon start the renovation works on the building, which they might offer some compensation... Some left. And then the City Council suspended these works due to lack of permits. Those jobs left a few cracks.

“Shortly after the suspension of the works, the false squatters arrived. Up to three times they began to pour water through the floor so that my floor would flood!” The Barcelona firefighters themselves confirmed these signs of mobbing in a recent report. The truth is that in recent months both firefighters and urban guards went to this property a few times. Ultimately the neighbors installed a surveillance camera on the landing. “And we asked the mayor what we can do.” Municipal sources indicate that the City Council is following the case very closely and will carry out the corresponding actions.
