Raquel Sánchez rejects the maximalist positions in the Housing Law

The Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, Raquel Sánchez, yesterday made an appeal to the "progressive forces", in reference to United We Can and the investiture partners, pointing out that it is "the time to abandon maximalist positions, join forces, seek positions of consensus and make possible, finally, the first Housing Law”. She thus indicated it at the press conference on the occasion of the explanation of the budgets assigned to the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda.

Sánchez stressed that he hopes that the processing of the law will be completed "before the end of the year" and pointed out that "there has never been a blockade, but rather dialogue and a lot of work with discretion." The minister exemplified these words by pointing out that, "from minute one", the Government was "open to the improvements of the parliamentary groups" and, therefore, "more than 400 amendments of the 800 presented" have been transacted, a figure " quite eloquent."

Asked if he excluded United We Can from the negotiation for having already agreed with them on the draft law, he pointed out that "all the formations can present the amendments they consider", but stressed that "we cannot disappoint" the citizens who expect the norm “and, especially, to the youngest”. Sánchez stressed that the text approved a few months ago by the Council of Ministers is a "brave, necessary, legally impeccable law, respectful of regional powers and that protects the small owner."

On the other hand, the allocation of the Ministry and its companies in the budgets reaches 21,273 million, 9% more than in the 2022 accounts. Sánchez indicated that the main elements of these accounts are mobility and housing. The first promotes "territorial cohesion, equal opportunities and intermodality" from a sustainable mobility that prioritizes the railway for being "the most respectful means of transport with the environment".

Regarding housing, he pointed out that they encourage it "as never before in history" by betting on the public housing stock and the rehabilitation of housing. Specifically, they hope to reach 510,000 actions in 2026 and thereby reduce non-renewable energy consumption by 30%.
