Queen Sofía, admitted to the Ruber clinic for a urinary infection

Queen Sofía remains admitted to the Ruber Internacional clinic in Madrid where she was transferred on Tuesday night after the medical services of the King's House detected a urinary tract infection. The King's mother, as reported by the Zarzuela palace, is evolving "rapidly and favorably" and will remain under observation for 24 or 48 hours, in accordance with medical advice.

The King's mother, 85 years old, has always enjoyed good health as she herself has acknowledged on several occasions. A few years ago she underwent surgery for bunions on both feet, in two different interventions, but she is not known to have any other pathology.

Queen Sofía appeared for the last time in public this Monday, in the company of King Juan Carlos, at the funeral of her nephew Fernando Gómez-Acebo, which took place in the military cathedral of Madrid. On Saturday she also attended the wedding banquet of the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, and Teresa Urquijo, which took place on a farm in Colmenar Viejo, owned by the bride's maternal grandparents. During Holy Week, the King's mother, in addition to attending the Holy Monday concert that took place in the cathedral of Palma, traveled to Malaga to attend the procession of the Christ of the Good Death and, the following day, Good Friday, He was also in the Cristo de los Alabarderos, in Madrid.

Queen Sofía planned to travel to Huesca next Friday to learn about the reality of the Food Bank of the Aragonese city and help, with her presence, promote donations. Through the Queen Sofía Foundation, the King's mother, she actively collaborates with that organization and has visited different headquarters in various places in Spain where the first needs of vulnerable people or people at risk of social exclusion are attended to.
