Puig, a beauty and fashion giant focused on the premium sector, is expanding its portfolio with the purchase of a majority stake in the German cosmetics company Dr. Barbara Sturm, as announced this Thursday. The company is focused on molecular cosmetics and founder Barbara Sturm will maintain a minority stake and continue to lead product development.

The firm is a premium skin care brand, founded in 2014 by Barbara Sturm, an aesthetic expert and pioneer in anti-inflammatory treatments. Their range includes skin, body and hair care and supplements. The products are free of synthetic fragrances, harsh preservatives and parabens, it is noted.

"With the addition of its scientific approach to skin care and its highly effective treatments, we take another important step to expand our position in the premium skin care segment," said Marc Puig, CEO of Puig. The group highlights its global recognition through the network of spas and boutiques and digital channels.

The acquired brand has more than 300 products and about 5,000 skin care routines. One of Barbara Sturm's most recognized treatments is the blood facial, a platelet-rich plasma facial, which she later followed by MC1, a tailored plasma-based moisturizer.

Puig wants to expand Dr. Barbara Sturm's footprint and boost its international expansion and development, "expanding its existing network of spas - it has seven - and boutiques in Düsseldorf, London, New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Dallas, Jakarta and Singapore" . "This alliance will drive us to continually push boundaries, create highly effective treatments and improve the skincare experience,” explained Sturm. "Puig has a proven track record of competitive and disruptive business approach, we are ready to introduce our products for skin care to a broader audience," he added.

In 2022, Puig generated 3,620 million euros, 40% more, with sales in more than 150 countries and its own offices in 32.
