Psychosis grows in the New York subway as a passenger dies after being pushed onto the tracks

The feeling of insecurity in the New York subway, despite the deployment of members of the national guard, only increased this Monday night with another tragic episode. The psychosis is getting worse.

Out of nowhere, by chance, a man pushed another man onto the tracks when the train was very close, without the convoy arriving at the station at 125th Street and Lexington Avenue, in East Harlem, having time. to stop and fatally run over the victim.

It happened around seven in the afternoon. The alleged aggressor was arrested, according to a social spokesperson, who did not offer his identity or that of the deceased. The service resumed a couple of hours later, although a significant detachment of uniformed officers remained at the crime scene.

This deadly attack is the last recorded in a series of violent chapters under the ground, which has caused the increase of agents patrolling in this vital transportation system for the metropolis, in an attempt to calm the fears of citizens and that tries to guarantee them make the system secure.

Along these lines, Governor Kathy Hochul deployed almost a thousand soldiers this month in search of calming that sense of danger, although the events are isolated. But, once that order was given and in addition to this latest tragedy, a few days ago there was a shooting inside a carriage from which the person who caused the fight was seriously injured. In videos recorded by witnesses, the fear of the other passengers can be seen when a gun appears in play. The entire calm effort was misplaced.

These incidents also demonstrate, as many citizens maintain, that the deployment of the military is a toast to the sun in the face of the difficulty and complexity of controlling every centimeter of an extensive and sprawling system. His task, without flashing his rifle, is to support the police in searching bags or backpacks.

What happens underground reflects what happens on the surface due to the neglect of the growing number of people with mental problems, the increase in homelessness (largely due to the influence of the thousands of undocumented immigrants who have arrived and are still arriving in the city from 2022) and the greatest number of weapons on the streets.

Many experts believe that these crises cannot be solved by putting soldiers in the subway, but rather that other ways should be sought, such as offering shelter or medical care.

The statistics do not indicate that this is a time of special crime. Despite an uptick, crimes are below 2022 and practically at the same level as before the pandemic, although then there were 30% more travelers.

There are no figures, however, that can combat the feeling of fear that exists in a significant number of suburban users, as surveys show.
