PSG formalizes the dismissal of Pochettino and presents Galtier

PSG made official this Tuesday the dismissal of Argentine coach Mauricio Pochettino, after a season and a half on the bench of the entity, and a few minutes later, at a press conference in the Parc des Princes, he announced his replacement, the Frenchman Christophe Galtier, who assumes the bench with "great joy and pride".

"I thank the president, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, Luis Campos (sports advisor) and the entire club for the trust they have decided to place in me. I know the responsibilities I will have at the head of this extraordinary squad, without a doubt one of the most competitive and spectacular in Europe", indicated the coach at the start, who signs until 2024.

Galtier will work, among others, with Mbappé, Messi and Neymar, "talented" players, as well as "a very high-level staff" who will support him in his "mission", which undoubtedly involves winning the Champions League "We all know what represents PSG today in French and international football. The ambition, rigor and optimization of the team's potential will be my guidelines", he added together with Al Khelaifi.

For its part, the club "thanks Mauricio Pochettino and his team for their work and wishes them the best." Under the direction of the Argentine coach, PSG won the last League, the Cup in 2021 and the 2020 Super Cup (played late due to the pandemic).

However, the lack of results in the Champions League (semi-final in 2021 and, above all, the painful elimination against Real Madrid in the round of 16 this year) ended up sentencing Pochettino, one of the victims of the new project in addition to the sports director Leonardo, replaced by Louis Campos.

Last week, the club and the coach's legal representation closed a compensation agreement for Pochettino and the four members of his coaching staff (two Spaniards and two Argentines) for the season that they still had pending in their contract. That deal would amount to between 10 and 15 million euros, according to French sports media.
