Primo de Rivera will be exhumed this Monday from the Cuelgamuros Valley

The body of the founder of the Spanish Falange, José Antonio Primo de Rivera, will be exhumed next Monday, April 24, as Moncloa has confirmed and Cadena SER has advanced. The coffin will be transferred from the Basílica Mayor del Valle de Cuelgamuros, formerly known as Valley of the Fallen.

The family had already requested at the end of last year that his remains be exhumed from the Valley of the Fallen. Primo de Rivera's tomb is very close to where the dictator Francisco Franco was buried before he was exhumed in 2019.

In accordance with the new Democratic Memory Law, the Cuelgamuros Valley will thus cease to be a place of exaltation of the dictatorship and will become a civil cemetery. In this sense, the family sought to fulfill the will of Primo de Rivera, who before dying expressed his desire to be buried in a Catholic cemetery.
