The group that has defended and fought for 10 years for the Can Sanpere factory site in Premià de Mar (Maresme) to be for public use, left the space yesterday after announcing that the city council had signed the mayoral decree that should initiate the process of expropriation of the farm, owned by the promoter Núñez y Navarro.
In a statement, the Can Sanpere collective announced that it was leaving the venue "with the satisfaction" of having fought until the end. They assure that in these ten years they have faced great challenges and carried out great advances such as the pioneering citizen consultation in the city to ask for the opinion of the people of Premian. Likewise, the action has allowed the architectural protection of the space and the possibility of opening new facilities.
The collective assumes that its strategic withdrawal "has been necessary" to face the expropriation, a step that concludes with the fight for "A 100% public Can Sanpere". They report that after many months of negotiation with the City Council "an agreement was reached with the association of Can Sanpere" which materialized in an agreement signed on May 14.
The agreement agrees to start the expropriation process in the current mandate once the group left the space. It also commits the Consistory to offer a new space to the collective while the demolition and rehabilitation works of the enclosure last. Likewise, work groups should be set up to monitor the works, as well as promote the study of future uses of the space and guarantee the return of the Can Sanpere association.
