Port Aventura World, with six owned hotels and 2,500 rooms next to the theme park, yesterday made official the purchase of the Atenea Aventura hotel, in Vila-seca (Tarragonès), less than two kilometers from the resort. Almost three decades after the inauguration of the park, the current owner group has decided to change its strategy and acquire for the first time a hotel establishment outside its vacation and entertainment complex.
It will not be an isolated operation. Port Aventura is looking for and evaluating new operations to buy and manage other hotels in its area of influence. Specifically, he adds that it is "the first of a series of selective operations in other hotels in the area over the next few years."
"The operation represents the entry into a new hotel management model, expanding borders within the Costa Daurada and allowing intensifying the growth of the resort's accommodation offer," they add. Port Aventura World speaks of "innovation and diversification strategy".
The Atenea hotel, owned until now by the Bonanova family from Barcelona, is a four-star establishment with 94 standard rooms and also apartments. Port Aventura has not wanted to reveal the purchase price of its first hotel outside the complex, nor the expected volume of the investment it plans to make to take control of other hotel businesses.
The operation has caused surprise in the hotel sector of the Costa Daurada, although the change in strategy of the tourism giant is not seen as a threat. Sources in the sector interpret the movement as Port Aventura's desire to have rooms outside the park, although in the same area of influence, something that allows it to diversify its offer and gain "versatility".
Having the Atenea Aventura hotel will allow the Port Aventura convention center to offer packages that include accommodation throughout the year, even when the six hotels in the park are closed, out of season.
"Our purpose is to offer our visitors the most complete, diverse and adjusted leisure to their needs and preferences, and the acquisition of hotels in the surroundings of the complex helps us to make this possible", highlighted Fernando Aldecoa, general director of operations and finance of Port Aventura World, after signing the agreement with the Hotel Atenea Aventura.
