Playa de Muro, the kingdom of crystalline waters in Majorca

From the heights, it seems that the beach of Muro embraces you in its lap, that it protects you from the routine and the big city, from traffic and stress. And indeed, the balsamic effect is immediate. You just have to step on its white sand as fine as velvet, to leave behind everything that weighs us down. A walk on the beach soothes the soul, even more so if we have a Caribbean-style turquoise sea in front of us, one of those where you walk and walk and the water only reaches your knees, with hammocks and palm leaf umbrellas to insolently dedicate yourself to pleasure of reading and feel -perhaps for a moment- that time and vacations are infinite.

This sensation is perceived in the nearly six kilometers of extension that this piece of heaven has on the north coast of Mallorca, between Port de Alcúdia and the town of Can Picafort. Behind it, as if protecting it, is the s'Albufera natural park, one of the most biodiverse ecosystems on the island of Mallorca, a 1,600-hectare wetland where a rich variety of birds converge, such as the peregrine falcon, flamingos or the plover. There are some trails -both for cycling and for walking- with sighting points and information panels that give an account of the rich flora and fauna of the natural park.

To the west, as if expectant, the final stretch of the Serra de Tramuntana stretches out, another great natural monument of the Mediterranean, declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco, the backbone of the island, which is home to natural paradises, such as the Cúber reservoirs. and Gorg Blau, perfect for hiking or cycling tours and immersing yourself in the most rustic part of the island.

The fascinating thing about Playa de Muro is its balance between the natural beauty of the place and the tourist infrastructure, which allows you to enjoy the ecosystem in an easy and comfortable way, with access to all the necessary services to live an unforgettable experience. On the front line, the majestic and modern five-star hotel Iberostar Selection Playa Muro Village stands out, a proposal that is aimed at a family audience.

Without a doubt, its location is unbeatable, right on the beach, just a minute's walk to the shore. The pool, which connects the beach space with the rooms, is the epicenter, where everything converges. From the loungers you can contemplate the sea, while the little ones splash around in the pool, and ask the friendly team for a drink in one of its seven bars and four restaurants.

Parents will be very grateful for the Star Camp, a giant space for the fun of the little ones (between 4 and 12 years old) that does not lack anything: outdoor play area, a zip line, a wooden boat inside, rooms rest area, area to develop creativity, 3 children's pools and an Aquafan, always under the watchful eye of specialized caretakers.

In this hotel, fun is designed for all ages, if you are a teenager you can go to the Eagle Club, to practice sports and water activities. Meanwhile, parents can rest in the fabulous Spa Sensations, with a Turkish bath, heated loungers and water jet itineraries, or get fit in its large, modern gym.

And speaking of wellness, at Iberostar they take care of the planet and the holistic development of an ecological conscience very seriously. Proof of this is their Wave of Change movement, which promotes the circular economy -they were the first hotel chain in the world to eliminate single-use plastics, to give an example-, which promotes responsible consumption of fish -which come from suppliers certified-, and has even ventured into the development of projects to support fishing communities, its third line of action being the improvement of coastal health, creating new green areas, planting corals and raising awareness among customers.

The Muro beach environment offers numerous sports activities in the open air and nature, but ancestral culture and traditions are also rooted in this area in the north of the island of Mallorca. One of the best known, which in recent times has acquired a well-deserved international fame, is the ikat, the famous fabrics of languages, whose origin seems to go back to the silk route. They are easy to recognize by the geometric shapes they represent, which are reminiscent of a tongue or a mountain. The Teixits Vicens workshop is one of the best known, honoring a family tradition that dates back to 1854.

The main raw material is white cotton, which is combined with linen and dyed in sections according to the desired pattern. After dyeing, the composition of the drawing is made, to finally take it to the loom to give it body. What makes them unique, apart from their fascinating geometry, which seems to evoke a remote and ancestral time of the first settlers of the island, is that the fabric has no reverse and that its patterns are achieved by leaving some parts of the threads undyed. .

These fabrics are the basis for the Vicens family to unleash their creativity. In his beautiful shop in the Pollença roundabout -with a wooden boat in his window included- he offers a wide range of products, such as cushion covers, bags, chairs, table linens and even objects for pets. A tourist visit to the workshop is very interesting and recommendable, where we can immerse ourselves in this laborious and fascinating ikat process.

On our way to Palma we cross the island with the Tramuntana to the east, always vigilant, reminding us that adventure, mystery and mountains are also present in the largest of the Balearic Islands. By way of contrast, the interior of the island is a great plain that allows one to contemplate the vast horizon. In less than an hour by car, we are at Playa de Palma, a kilometer-long stretch of sand with turquoise waters, reminiscent of that of Muro, but in an opposite location, famous for being one of the epicenters of international tourism. This corner of the island is perfect for watching the sunset and toasting with a cold drink. One of the best spots is the rooftop of the Iberostar Selection Llaut Palma hotel, one of those places that as soon as you see it you can't help but sigh: wowww.

The sunbeams reflecting off the surface make it look like a sapphire, with sailboats cruising the horizon and the omnipresent immensity of the Mediterranean. In the background, as if sleepy but always attentive, the Tramuntana closes and frames the paradisiacal setting. The decoration is dominated by a combination of gray and turquoise tones, with large and sophisticated armchairs to let yourself be carried away by the moment and with some of the refreshing signature cocktails offered by its well-nourished bar. On that same floor is the unforgettable Katagi Blau restaurant, awarded in 2019 and 2020 as the best Asian fusion cuisine restaurant in Europe.

The Teppanyaki experience takes gastronomy to its essence, by sharing the kitchen space with the chef and assisting as a privileged spectator in the creation of each one of the dishes. This hotel, which is only for adults, has beautiful rooms with sea views, impressive buffet breakfasts, an outdoor pool with Balinese sun loungers, and a spa to seal the best vacation of your life with a flourish.

Times are changing, mobility is easier than ever and we want to be everywhere, to live and share life to its fullest. Along these lines, the five-star all-inclusive hotel Iberostar Selection Llaut Palma launches the Island Summer Pass proposal, which allows exclusive benefits at the hotel, as well as free access to 14 Iberostar Beachfront hotels in Mallorca. It includes all its restaurants and facilities, such as swimming pools, spas and even an Island Concierge as a personal advisor to design a unique and personalized experience that allows you to discover the most surprising corners of the island, so that you feel that the kingdom of crystalline waters belongs to you. , always with the approval and complicity of the Serra de Tramuntana.
