Planes taking off to the moon

* The author is part of the community of readers of La Vanguardia

These photographs for La Vanguardia's Readers' Photos were taken last Thursday evening, just when the full moon was rising, which is the first of the year and is called the Wolf Moon.

It is known this way because its appearance made the wolves howl louder, coinciding with their desperation due to the scarcity of food at this time of year.

In the photos you can see the planes just as they take off from El Prat airport and they are taken from Las Filipinas beach, next to the Llobregat Delta.

You can see how the hot exhaust gases from the aircraft engines are illuminated by the moonlight and cause the image to be locally deformed in the direction of their exit.

Spotting is the observation and recording of aircraft. It is a practice so popular among photography lovers that they are called spotters. And, in summer, it can be practiced while we seek to cool off on the beach, especially if we are near an airport, such as, in this case, Prat de Llobregat.
