Pink confesses that she almost died from an overdose days before signing her first contract

It was the year 2000 when Pink released her first solo album, Can't Take Me Home. An album that launched her to absolute stardom, certified double platinum in the United States and the starting signal for one of the most solid careers in the world of pop-rock.

However, few know that the young Alecia Beth Moore - the singer's real name - was also a teenage pop star, with her band, Choice. Now, the singer was on the verge of not seeing her dream come true because, a few weeks before her debut, she had been on the verge of dying from a drug overdose.

She herself has confessed it in an interesting interview with the journalist Cecilia Vega on the program 60 Minutes, which got her to open the channel and tell her what her childhood and adolescence had been like. The singer admitted that she had been very rebellious, especially after her parents' divorce when she was only 10 years old; she letting herself be seduced by all kinds of substances and temptations on party nights.

One of those days, however, marked the artist's destiny. It was 1995, Thanksgiving Day, and the then-teenager Alecia escaped to party. However, that night she took a cocktail of drugs that almost cost her her life. "She was out of control," she admits, confessing that she was kicked out of the house and expelled from school at the time.

His life was so upside down that, at just 16 years old, he had a fight with his mother that almost ended fatally, with Judith Moore falling down the stairs and having to seek medical assistance. The singer admits that it is one of the episodes she regrets most in her life.

"I was on ecstasy, angel dust, crystal... All kinds of things. And suddenly, I was out. It was over. Too much," he revealed. An experience that she lived when she was only 16 years old, but that radically changed her life forever. What's more, thanks to that moment, she managed to get the DJ of the nightclub where she spent that fateful night to offer her an opportunity.

"He said, 'Come back tomorrow, I'll give you your own space. But you can't ever touch drugs again.'" She did so and, four weeks later, Alecia was presenting to record companies, being chosen as the leader and singer of the teenage group Choice, from LaFace Records.

Since then, his life and career have been meteoric. However, she can't help but remember those fateful days with sadness. "I remember my friend, next to me, slapping me and saying, 'You want to sing, right?' And I said yes, so I got up and sang." However, they are still a lesson for her.

"I realized that the machete I've always carried, this machete I've always carried, is what makes me really good at what I do today. This is what makes me a survivor."
