Palafrugell suspends licenses to build swimming pools for one year

The Palafrugell City Council has temporarily suspended the granting of licenses to build new swimming pools, expand or rehabilitate existing or disused ones. The measure, which will be valid for one year, was approved at the municipal plenary session this Tuesday.

The mayor of Palafrugell, Juli Fernández, explains that the measure responds to the desire to adapt the Municipal Urban Planning Plan (POUM) to new criteria motivated by climate change in terms of the dimensions of the swimming pools or the reuse of water. .

Furthermore, the City Council has detected since the entry into force of the emergency phase, on February 1, several non-compliance with the rule that prohibits filling or refilling the glasses of these facilities.

Specifically, in the latest inspections, 11 swimming pools have been detected that had the corresponding construction license and that have not respected the limitation that prevented them from filling it. The mayor has indicated that disciplinary proceedings will be opened.

Just ten days ago, the Palafrugell City Council announced a series of actions to reduce water consumption, such as closing the showers in theater dressing rooms, pavilions and municipal soccer fields.
