Outrage in Espanyol over a play in which a parakeet footballer commits rape

Espanyol has expressed in a statement its concern over what it considers to be a lack of respect committed in the play 'Cacophony' by Molly Taylor, directed by Anna Serrano and which is being performed at the Sala Beckett in Barcelona, in which one One of the characters is a rapist footballer who is linked as an RCDE player.

The club strongly condemns this connection and says it cannot "tolerate that we could be related to this problem. And even more so when our club has never been related to this type of situation that arises."

"Out of absolute respect for freedom of creation and expression, RCD Espanyol has contacted the director of Sala Beckett to express our anger at this situation," reads the statement.

The club considers that this is a sensitive issue and manifests itself as a club "against violence, reprehensible attitudes that must be eradicated, such as those shown in the work."
