Of every ten shareholders in the Valencian company, only two are women

The weight of women over the total number of members in the governing bodies of Valencian companies stands at 23.6%, below the national average of 24.9%. The figure was presented yesterday by the researcher at the Valencian Institute for Economic Research (Ivie) and coordinator of the GECE Observatory, Alejandro Escribà, who explained that although the Valencian percentage "is a little smaller", it is also true that "there are more women shareholders in Valencia than in other places”. This reality happens, above all, in medium-large companies, so this makes them "more visible".

The report Analysis of the position of women in ownership and in the government of Valencian companies redounds on the idea of inequality in senior management, with contrasting figures: in Valencian and Spanish companies, out of every ten shareholders, only two they are women. In the Valencian case it translates into 20.6% while in the national average it remains at 22.6%. Insufficient percentage still, because the real objectives of each gender having a minimum representation of 40% in the company as requested by Europe are still "far away", Escribá recalled.

Another of the conclusions of the report is that while they hold an average of 68.9% of the capital in the companies in which they participate, the average participation in the capital of female shareholders stands at 52.5%, which is that is, 23.7% lower than that of men.

The distance between men and women becomes more evident in the case of companies in which a single administrator controls the management, while it is considerably reduced in those that have a board of directors, with an average participation of 44.7 % of men, compared to 39.3% of women.

To work on the visibility of women managers, the event held at the CaixaBank headquarters in Valencia included the participation of female role models who hold leadership, such as Eva Blasco, as president of CEV Valencia and the Valencian Association of Business Women (EVAP). , Pilar Chorén, managing director of the Ivie, in addition to the businesswomen who recounted their experiences, Amaya Fernández de Uzquiano and Araceli Císcar, both major shareholders in their respective companies.

Fernández de Uzquiano is president of the Valencian Association of Plastic Companies, president of the Packaging and Packaging Cluster, co-founder and director of Nunsys and General Director of IRISEM, the latter family business of which it is the second generation. She defended that "if there are more women in managerial positions, we will achieve that there are also more around us" and addressed family reconciliation as one of the barriers that, traditionally, women impose on themselves to avoid promotion.

For her part, Araceli Císcar, executive director and director of Dacsa Group, a company her father founded and with whom she continues to work, pointed out that "women have to be able to take a step forward." The directive pointed out that ambition must be valued, bet on teamwork - "accompanied you go further" - and collected the reflection on conciliation to defend that it is important "to highlight the commitment of women so that they can continue working after being mothers. It is important that they are valued, and I mean also on the payroll."

That yes, to listen to the conclusions of the report there was, mainly, attendance of women. A common situation in forums on gender issues that some speaker also wanted to highlight.
