Without knowing yet if the judge gives credibility to the story of the Prosecutor's Office, which exempts it from any legal responsibility in the alleged case of corruption of the Consell Esportiu; or that of the economic and fiscal crime unit (Udef) of the National Police, which incriminates her for allegedly not doing everything in her power to prosecute the embezzlement of public funds, Núria Marín has announced that she wants to once again opt for the mayor's office of l'Hospitalet de Llobregat.
"I will present myself as long as I have followers, my party supports me and the neighbors want me to be mayor," said the socialist during an act in the La Florida neighborhood. "I feel like it, the same or more illusion than when I started," she added. "I am very clear about what needs to be done and also how to do it: listening to the neighbors every day," she said.
In its latest report, the Udef accuses Marín of acting with "collusion" and exercising "protection" of the main suspects in the plot, the former councilors, also from the PSC, Cristian Alcázar and Cris Plaza.
Despite urging the execution of an audit of the private entity dedicated to the promotion of sport and providing documentation to the courts when the issue was prosecuted, the Udef remarks that Marín "was able to adopt the measures that his powers as an authority allow him, among others , the opening of disciplinary or investigative files on the facts, even after the police and judicial action; however, he did nothing about it.” Plaza resigned in December 2020 and Alcázar in April of this year.
On the other hand, through their interpretation of Marín's WhatsApp messages until just before her arrest and statement to the Police and Plaza's resignation, the investigators deduce that the mayor's relationship with the main people involved in the case is "Close, trustworthy and friendly, so its unconditional support is understood." Some ties that would explain, always according to this report discredited by the Prosecutor's Office, a "certain collusion and protection of those investigated." They argue an "objective and deliberate abstention" of the mayor.
The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office disagrees with this thesis, which remarked that "there is not a single piece of information that allows us to deduce that the investigated acted in contradiction with the Law" after analyzing the investigations.
At the same time, the popular accusation, in this case represented by the commons of l'Hospitalet, rejects the filing of the mayor's case demanded by the prosecutor and by Marín's defense. Thus, the last word will be the judge deciding whether the first mayor goes to trial or not.
