Nobu and its new terrace of vertigo

Two years of work and a most complex work to be able to inaugurate the highest hotel terrace in Barcelona. It is the story of Nobu Hotel, owned by the most acclaimed Japanese chef in Hollywood, Nobuyuki Matsuhisa, the actor Robert de Niro and the film producer Meir Teper, who since opening in 2019 have been trying to have a rooftop at their height (and it is How can one of the most luxurious hotels with the best views in Barcelona not have a terrace?).

It was prevented from doing so by the old satellite dish that until recently presided over the roof of the Torre Catalunya, 80 meters high, where The Rooftop at Nobu Hotel has just opened with a 360º panoramic view of the city, swimming pool and restaurant.

What is surprising upon arrival, in addition to its dizzying views, is that they have opted for a much more Mediterranean design than what this hotel chain is used to. It is signed by the award-winning AvroKo studio, which has chosen ornate cement tiles, icons of Barcelona modernism for some areas of the terrace, although Japanese inspiration is not lacking either, as reflected in the Kawara tiles that cover the restaurant.

The gastronomic proposal is obviously from Nobu, although they expect a much more casual Nobu. Wagyu jerky, salmon monakas, shiso avocado or tuna, an interesting corn with truffled honey or Padrón peppers with sweet miso are some of the dishes that already warn from the start that for this space the chef has leaned towards Japanese fusion -Mediterranean and that the menu is designed for tapas. This is also demonstrated by the black cod croquettes with shiso sauce or the squid with salt and pepper; although there are also more substantial dishes: from sea bass ceviche with coconut to wagyu ribs or succulent fried chicken wings with alioli.

They have natural wines and Garage Beer craft beers to accompany them, but the signature cocktail proposal they offer deserves a separate mention: their drink called Coyote (with Galliano, Campari, Mezcal Amores, Yuzu and Umami Bitter), for example, It's delicious.
