"Nobody here is going to call me a faggot": Rodrigo Cuevas' confession in 'Lo de Évole'

One more night, Lo de Évole has landed on laSexta. On this occasion, Rodrigo Cuevas has been interviewed by Jordi Évole. The musician, showman, total artist, stage animal and folkloric agitator has opened up to Évole.

The Asturian has underpinned his career by reinterpreting and updating traditional music, which he has managed to take to stages around the world. In addition, Rodrigo Cuevas has confessed to Jordi Évole about the bullying he suffered during his childhood.

Rodrigo Cuevas' childhood was not easy at all. The artist was in Oviedo, a "very conservative city where there is no room for more than a certain type of person," according to Cuevas. The artist has spoken with Jordi Évole about one of the school changes he had to face and how he pretended to be someone he was not.

"In Oviedo they bullied me in all the places where I was studying. I remember going through the patio alone, holding back the tears so that others would not see them, so as not to show yourself weak. And also not to tell it at home, because you felt that it was a weakness, a shame", has commented. "I also remember how the teachers didn't do anything, they didn't talk to you about it, they didn't support you psychologically...", she added.

"I remember once I changed schools. For me going to a new school was like hard but I said come on... no one is going to call me a fag here, I'm going to be super macho. I stopped moving my hands, expressing myself, I tried to speak more serious... Imagine what picture, I would be fatal", Cuevas told Évole to the astonishment.

"At that school I said... Nobody here is going to find out. I didn't know I was really a fagot, I didn't know what it was to be," he added. However, he said that despite his efforts they ended up "caught" .

It should be noted that during his interview the artist has reflected on various topics such as the importance of tradition, rural life and what Spain is for him, acknowledging that it is increasingly clear to him that he would not like to live anywhere other than the Iberian Peninsula.
