Nicolás Bugeda, new manager of the Consortium of Museums of the Valencian Community

The Consortium of Museums of the Valencian Community (CMCV) has appointed Nicolás Bugeda new manager. The designation has had the favorable vote of the representatives of the Generalitat, the three provincial councils, the town councils of Castelló de la Plana, Valencia and Alicante and with the vote against the representative of the Valencian Council of Culture.

It was decided yesterday in the plenary session of the General Council of the entity that, in addition, it was aware of the draft of the rules that will govern the public call for the artistic direction position of the CMCV, which adapts to the model followed by the National Art Center Museum Reina Sofía, adapting to the uniqueness of the Consorci.

Regarding the appointment of Bugeda, the first vice president and Minister of Culture and Sports, Vicente Barrera, highlighted the need for the person in charge "to have a series of very precise characteristics for the proper functioning of this institution."

"First of all," he explained, "the exhaustive knowledge of the Consorci de Museus and the applicable regulations and also experience in the management of cultural institutions, who was a person with experience in technical management in the field of plastic arts, its operations, their production processes and knowledge of the centers programmed by the CMCV, as occurs in the case of Nicolás Bugeda".

The new person in charge of management has been part of the CMCV staff since 2005 where he has developed different functions and skills associated with technical-administrative management until today, the Ministry reports in a statement.

During this time he has been a resident of the Permanent Contracting Commission; general coordinator of exhibition management, as well as head of Public Relations. Likewise, he has been technical coordinator of exhibitions and their publications. Currently he belongs to the Administration department assigned to management.

Previously, he has held other positions and responsibilities related to cultural management, specifically as a member of the Alicante Municipal Board of Culture, member of the Board of Trustees of the Valencian Community of Arts Foundation, secretary of the Joaquín Sorolla Institution for Research and Studies and the Association of Friends of the Museum of Fine Arts of Valencia.

He has a degree in the Cultural Institutions Management Program from the IESE Business School and a master's degree in Communication from the Miguel Hernández University of Elche. Likewise, she has training in Protocol and Ceremonial from the International School of Protocol of Elche.

On the other hand, in the plenary session held this Thursday, the draft of the rules that will govern the public call for the CMCV artistic direction position was transferred to the attendees, which adapts to the model followed by the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía , adapting to the uniqueness of the Consorci.

At the meeting it was agreed that, after finalizing details, in the coming days the call will be made public, which, in addition to justifying the creation of the position and defining the programmatic lines to which it is desired that the candidates' proposals conform, establishes detail the selection rules in accordance with an open, participatory and objective model, aimed at selecting a highly qualified and experienced candidate.

Vice President Barrera recently remarked to Europa Press, regarding the plans of his department in the Consorci de Museus after the dismissal of its managing director, José Luis Pérez Pont, that it is "essential" to change the managing director model and distribute those two positions in different people because "there has to be a 'bad part' in the instrumental public sector, a manager who controls the director." Regarding the public competition to find a new artistic director, he emphasized the desire for it to "be known to the whole world." "We are going to publicize it a lot, something that perhaps was not done in other stages."

On an interim basis, these functions will continue to be assumed by the CMCV exhibition technician Vicente Samper, whom the General Council has congratulated for his diligence, as well as Lucía González, who has been the person in charge of temporarily coordinating the technical-administrative management until now. In another order of things, the actions carried out in the last month by the CMCV have been reported, the future management tasks have been reported, and the 2024 budget has been approved.

Finally, the headquarters of the Consorci have been ratified in the three provinces that will continue to be, in the case of Valencia, the old Convento del Carmen (Centre del Carme Cultura Contemporània); and in Castellón and Alicante the respective headquarters of the Territorial Directorates of the First Vice Presidency and the Ministry of Culture and Sports, all of this by virtue of the policy of the Valencian Government regarding the structuring of the Valencian Community.
