Movie police chase: from Coslada to Madrid for six stolen hams

The Local Police of Coslada have arrested two men who committed a robbery with force in a ham shop yesterday after a police chase of several kilometers in which an officer was injured, the City Council reported today in a press release.

The events took place in the early hours of Monday morning. A neighbor raised the alarm after hearing loud bangs in a sausage shop located on Plantío Avenue. A Local Police team traveled to the scene and, upon arrival, observed two individuals fleeing aboard a car at high speed, ignoring the officers' signals.

This is how a chase began through several streets of the municipality towards the Vicálvaro highway and which was joined by two more indicators, one of them belonging to the National Police.

In his escape, the vehicle traveled at high speed, carrying out continuous evasive maneuvers and even driving in the opposite direction through different streets, already in the municipality of Madrid and putting at risk his own integrity, that of the agents and that of the rest of the road users.

Finally, on Santa Eugenia Avenue in Madrid, the agents caught up with the escaped vehicle, at which point the foot chase began for the two individuals who got out of the car. Their running flight did not last long since, shortly after, they were intercepted by officials.

After their arrest, both men were transferred to the Villa de Vallecas National Police Station, where the agents carried out the corresponding procedures. The vehicle used in the escape was removed by crane to the Coslada municipal warehouse, where it has remained at judicial disposal. Inside, the agents found up to six pieces of Iberian ham.

During the intervention, a National Police official was injured and a patrol vehicle of the Coslada Local Police suffered damage as a result of the chase. As for the affected establishment, the window glass had been fractured by a sewer.

After being notified, the owner of the establishment arrived at the scene, took charge of the premises and the agents informed him of both what happened and how to proceed.

This action is a consequence of the special joint device of the Local Police and the National Police for surveillance in the commercial areas of the Barrio del Puerto and Casco. This operation has been set up, in a special way, during night hours and in order to avoid theft in establishments.

The Coslada Local Police have reported that most of the robberies recorded recently in these areas have followed the same pattern, known as the 'gutter method'. This consists of the use of the manhole or metal cover of a sewer to access the premises after breaking the glass of the door or shop window.
