More than three years in prison for repeatedly attacking a minor in custody who had run away

A 35-year-old man has been sentenced to sentences totaling three years, nine months and one day in prison for repeatedly attacking his romantic partner, a minor under the guardianship of the Generalitat and an escapee from a center, in the municipalities of Alicante. from Torrevieja and Callosa de Segura where they shared a home.

The events that are the subject of the process took place in the period of just over three months in which both maintained a romantic relationship, between July and November 2019, according to the ruling handed down by the Court of Alicante.

The court considers it proven that, practically from the beginning of the relationship, the accused exercised physical abuse on the victim on a regular basis. Along these lines, the ruling refers to three specific dates on which different attacks occurred.

In the first of them, recorded on July 26, the defendant woke up the minor, shook her, grabbed her by the hair and locked her in a room. When she tried to run away from him, he grabbed her hair again and slapped her.

The second case of assault occurred on September 16 in which the defendant hit and kicked the victim, also at the home where they both lived at the time, in Torrevieja. The last of the attacks occurred on November 5 in another home, in Callosa de Segura, where the accused also punched him several times.

The defendant availed himself of his right not to testify during the trial on December 26. And neither did the victim, whose whereabouts were unknown. However, at her hearing the statement offered by her before the Court of Violence against Women of Orihuela was reproduced, which made it possible to know her version of the events.

The court grants credibility to the victim's story, after also taking into account the testimony of the owner of a game room where she went to take refuge after suffering one of the attacks, as well as the statement of the Civil Guard agents who They attended to her.
