Mbappé and the umpteenth train

Real Madrid celebrated the Christmas cup yesterday with the media, an event that had not taken place since December 2019, first due to covid and then due to the works at the Bernabéu. After the president's traditional triumphalist speech, already in the huddles, Florentino Pérez commented that the inauguration of the new Bernabéu is expected in April or May. At the beginning of the season it was leaked that it could be for this Christmas. The idea that the club is considering right now is that the stadium be inaugurated with a formal ceremony without a match.

The president also touched on two hot topics: the failed signing of Mbappé and who will be on the first team bench next season. In the case of the French forward, Real Madrid does not see the signing as completely impossible, but it is very difficult. “The decision depends on the player,” said Florentino Pérez, who said that opportunities “sometimes don't come back.” Madrid hoped to hire the Frenchman for June 2022, but then the Bondy striker decided to renew with PSG for two seasons and another optional season. Starting this January he could negotiate his future again.

Regarding the coach, Florentino Pérez's idea is to renew Carlo Ancelotti, with whom he is delighted. The Italian's contract ends on June 30 and he has had an offer on the table since the summer to be Brazil's coach from next June. Ancelotti has been avoiding commenting on his future for months, but it seems that he would not mind extending his contract.

The president also reviewed other topics. He dropped that he is not going to renew Luka Modric (38 years old), but he will renew Toni Kroos (who turns 34 in January). Asked if he is interested in recovering Miguel Gutiérrez (Girona's left back), he commented that "we will see in the summer." This season they have already signed a left-back, Fran García, from Rayo, but Ferland Mendy's future is up in the air.

Florentino Pérez revealed that on Sunday he will meet with the Brazilian forward Endrick, 17 years old, already signed and coming to the game against Villarreal. Among other things, he commented that the club has asked the League for permission to hold a second Taylor Swift concert. The first is already signed for May 30, 2024. Tickets were sold out in just five hours.
