Maxi Oliveira receives a stone in the face from a Rosario Central fan

New attack on a player in South American football. The match between Rosario Central and Peñarol at the Gigante de Arroyito stadium, corresponding to the first day of Group G of the Copa Libertadores, had an embarrassing ending with the brutal attack on the Uruguayan soccer player Maxi Oliveira, who received a stone in the face from from a local fan.

The 32-year-old full-back was hit in the face by a stone thrown from the stands by a fan of the Argentine team, shortly after finishing the match that the locals won 1-0. The Uruguayan player, after the attack, confronted the Rosario Central fans and had to be restrained by his teammates.

Oliveira was led by his teammates to the locker room with a bloody face, while they dodged other blunt objects. In the locker room, "Maxi vanished for a moment," explained Julio Trochansy, delegate of the Uruguayan club.

After the match, which left Rosario Central at the top of the standings with the same points as Atlético Mineiro, the Peñarol players approached the lower stand where the fans who had traveled from Montevideo were concentrated. In the same sector, although in the upper tribune, the Central fans had dedicated themselves to harassing the Peñarol fans.

Oliveira received a cut below his left eye, so he was taken to a clinic in the Argentine city of Rosario, where the relevant tests will be performed.
