Mataró toughens the ordinance against the practice of drinking bottles and begging

The Mataró (Maresme) City Council has approved the new Citizenship and Coexistence ordinance that toughens the measures against drinking and nuisance in public spaces.

In reference to the botellón, the novelties of the new regulations are an increase in the sanctions for serious offenses, the minimum amount of which is 450 euros. This practice is prohibited on all public roads and in crowded places such as spaces for public use, even if they are private. On the other hand, a time limitation is established in commercial establishments from 11:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. the following day.

Other novelties are the prohibition of playing loud music on public roads or vehicles, the obligation of those responsible for establishments to avoid noisy behavior by their customers, prohibiting the camping of vehicles or people in the urban area or the prohibition of certain behaviors such as begging or graffiti.

Regarding disturbances in public spaces – squares and parks – a time limitation is established and the police are given the power to evict public spaces in the event of uncivilized situations.
