Manresa and Igualada will bury the railway stations and tracks

The start of the extension works on line 8 of Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat (FGC) in Barcelona has had a butterfly effect and has unleashed a rain of millions at the other end of the Llobregat-Anoia line. Manresa and Igualada have received a visit this week from the Minister of Territories to announce steps forward in the projects to bury the tracks and stations in the two cities where the longest lines begin and end.

In the case of the capital of Anoia, the level crossing will be suppressed and a new underground station will be built, accompanied by an intermodal space that acts as an interchange with the bus lines and a car park designed for public transport users with capacity for more of 300 vehicles. The Government has already tendered the drafting of the construction project and the intention is to be able to start works within a year and a half with an investment of 31 million.

At the same time, work is expected to start on an even more ambitious project, that of Manresa. Also more expensive, around 50 million. In this case, the construction project for burying the railway line as it passes through the capital of Bages has just been awarded. The integration will begin at the Manresa Alta station and will be integrated under the city until a new station is built at Paseo Pere III, closer to the center, which will replace the Manresa Baixador station, whose space will be occupied by a new road for cars.

The drafting of the informative study and the construction project for the extension of the line to Parque de la Agulla, on the outskirts of Manresa, have also been awarded, thus creating a kind of urban metro with two new stops, one in the neighborhood of La Stop and another in the surroundings of the aforementioned park. This part is still green but if it goes ahead it will leave everything on track to create a train-tramway to the north of the region in the future.
