Madaula's situation reopens the fight between the families within Junts

The situation of Aurora Madaula, second secretary of the Parliament Board and vice president of Junts, has reopened the thunder box between the two great families of the post-convergent formation, the struggle between pragmatists and activists, after several months of apparent peace in a context of negotiation with the PSOE. The tension has been increasing in recent days after a week ago, from the lectern of the Chamber of Deputies, Madaula accused her colleagues and party partner of “silent violence” during the celebration of the Parlament de les Dones.

The president of the Catalan Chamber, Anna Erra, met yesterday with the deputy, close to Laura Borràs, and asked her to reflect on her continuity in the governing body of the institution given the mistrust that prevails between the two. In fact, in the pragmatic sector they have always been suspicious of Madaula, who held one of the vice-presidencies of the formation and that position on the Board alongside the president of JxCat, Borràs.

Furthermore, several Junts deputies spoke about the matter yesterday for the first time in public to reproach Madaula for making accusations and for talking about violence and attacks without evidence and without pointing to anyone in particular. In their messages they assured that his complaints have to do with “political disagreement,” something normal and democratic in an organization.

David Saldoni, one of the heavyweights of JxCat, and parliamentarians such as Anna Feliu, Irene Negre, Francesc Ten and Maite Selva spoke in this sense. Others like Ramon Tremosa, Gloria Freixa, Judith Toronjo, Jeannine Abella or Mercé Esteve chose to share the words of their group mates.

In any case, a week ago there was already a lot of unrest and more than twenty deputies signed a letter in which they rejected the accusations of the vice president of the party, a circumstance that forced a meeting of the permanent leadership the same weekend.

Consulting sources from the pragmatic wing remember that the deputy remained silent a year ago when she was in the eye of Hurricane Francesc de Dalmases, also close to Borràs, after a fight with a TV3 journalist.

The Junts guarantee commission now has to issue a report. There are three writings in relation to the matter, one from Madaula herself and two against her, one from twenty deputies and one from the party's feminism sector, which considers that the vice president has made spurious use of the feminist movement.

No movement is expected within the formation until there is a report. In relation to the Parliament, there is no mechanism for the representative to be deprived of her credentials or have to leave the Board, so everything depends on her personal decisions.

“Sexist violence is wearing the lilac ribbon, demonstrating, while at the same moment you impose machismo in your organizations, institutions, work or family environments,” said the representative at the lectern. “Sexist violence means that they belittle your work, that they don't listen to you, or that they modify your proposal without your opinion,” she continued, visibly moved. She also made reference to “parliamentary and media harassment.”

His words came a few days after he was disavowed in relation to a statement supporting abortion in Andorra.
