Last and massive farewell to Concha Velasco in her native Valladolid

With my heart in my mouth, the news of the transfer of Concha Velasco spread throughout Spain. The interpreter died this Saturday, December 2, at the Puerta de Hierro Hospital in Majadahonda, at the age of 84. The news was confirmed by her children, Manuel and Paco, through a statement sent to the media. The actress's family explained that her death occurred "as a result of a complication in her illness." This Sunday, friends, family and fans of hers said their last goodbye at her funeral, which took place in her native Valladolid.

Concha Velasco was one of the most charismatic and multifaceted artists in our country, and her career has been a hard blow for the world of culture and for all those who knew her. It was this Saturday morning when the news came to light. "We regret to inform that our mother, Concha Velasco, died today, Saturday the 2nd at 02:00 at the Puerta de Hierro Hospital in Majadahonda, having received the Holy Sacraments, as a result of a complication in her illness," the shared statement reported. by his two sons, Manuel and Francisco.

The 'ye-yé girl' suffered lymphatic cancer in 2014, and after the pandemic she herself acknowledged that her condition had worsened. The last two years of her life had been spent away from the stage, the place where she was truly happy. It was in March 2022 when the actress, singer and presenter entered a nursing home to be cared for in the best possible way. Her children traveled there almost daily, and from time to time, you could see a recognized face in the area, like Jorge Javier Vázquez.

During all this time, both the actress and her family have noticed the affection of all those who cared about her. "We are lucky to have enjoyed the best mother in the world and to receive the affection of so many Spaniards who love and admire her. Thank you all," her children expressed in the statement. "We ask for a prayer for the eternal rest of her soul. Our family will also thank you. Her children, Manuel and Paco," they ended by saying.

After the opening of a funeral chapel at the La Latina Theater in Madrid on Saturday, this Sunday, her mortal remains were transferred to Valladolid, the city where she was born. That is where her family, friends and fans have been able to say a final goodbye. Her funeral mass took place in the Cathedral of Valladolid, and was officiated by Archbishop Luis Arguello. Although the religious service began at 12 noon, the tributes to the interpreter began much earlier.

In fact, at 10 in the morning there was already movement at City Hall. A book of condolences has been placed in the Reception Hall for all those citizens who would like to sign it. This place will be open until 3:00 p.m., at which time the book will close. On the other hand, at 11:15 a funeral procession began that toured some of the most emblematic points of the city, such as the Military Hospital, Paseo Zorrilla, San Ildefonso, San Pablo and Angustias. The last stop was the Calderón Theater, paying tribute to what made the actress happiest: the stages.

After the mass, the body of the presenter will be taken to the Carmen cemetery. There she will rest in the pantheon of the illustrious, where the poet José Zorrilla and Miguel Delibes are also buried. Without a doubt, our country says goodbye to one of the greatest in Spanish culture. There will never be anyone like Concha, but her memory will remain intact in the minds of all her faithful followers.
