Las Palmas cuts Atlético's good streak short

Atlético was looking to leave and came out as co-leader of the Gran Canaria stadium, but UD Las Palmas gave the surprise and with its victory (2-1) prevented the colchoneros from achieving their seventh league victory.

We didn't see a good Atlético. From the first moment he did not look comfortable on the pitch. Las Palmas dominated the first half, although they had no scoring chances. The clearest was a counterattack by Riquelme, who won the game against Marcos Llorente, but the youth player was poor in the shot and Valles prevented the goal.

The second half began with more of the same but Las Palmas found their goal in the 51st minute on a ball that Griezmann lost on the wing against Cardona. This one crossed, Javi Muñoz intelligently let it pass and the play ended in a shot by Kirian Rodríguez that beat Oblak. Simeone protested, claiming that the ball had left the field of play, but neither Melero López nor the VAR agreed with him.

In the next play Riquelme shot the post and Simeone made drastic changes. He removed Griezmann, who did not believe he was the one replaced, and Koke, and Llorente and Correa entered.

With half an hour left, Atlético poured into Álvaro Valles' area. But it was not the night of the colchoneros. In the 74th minute, a lightning counterattack by Las Palmas brought the score to 2-0 thanks to a shot by Benito after a poor release of the ball by Hermoso and a pass from Munir.

Morata closed the gap in the 82nd minute after a cross from Riquelme. In added time Valles made the save of the match from Riquelme, Morata collected the rebound and sent it to the crossbar. Las Palmas had not beaten Atlético at home since 1987.
