Lagos de Covadonga, a tremendous end to the route of the first women's Tour of Spain

Women's cycling is booming and is expanding more and more in its professional field. The peloton gains media attention every year and with it comes the interest in creating competitions at the level of the best cyclists in the world. In this context, the first edition of La Vuelta a España Femenina was born, which stands alone after several editions connected with the masculine one.

This first women's Tour of Spain will consist of seven stages that will be held between May 1 and 7, 2023. An initial edition that will start from Torrevieja to conclude in the mythical setting of the Covadonga Lakes located in the Principality of Asturias.

This final stage is presented as the great judge of a Vuelta that will be surrounded by great expectations. A first second-category port will be in charge of making a first selection but it will not be until the last 10 kilometers of the stage where the imposing port heading towards the Lakes of Covadonga will put each cyclist in their place.

The test has already secured the best participation and hopes to have the vast majority of stars in the female peloton. A total of 24 teams from all over the world will participate in the round, which will also have 90 minutes of daily broadcast that will allow for extensive coverage of this first women's Tour.

It is vital for women's cycling that the rise of interest at a popular level is supported by events of the highest level such as this one. Scenarios such as the Lakes of Covadonga give way to the most spectacular feats and the fact that they can close the first edition of La Vuelta femenina is a declaration of intent that denotes a strong commitment to women's cycling.
